Lea Maria Arndorfer@El Santo

I work in the Friis shopping center in Aalborg at the street food market. The street food stand I worked at is called El Santo and offers Mexican food. Our tasks are to give out samples, take orders, cook the food and clean the kitchen. Everybody is really nice and helpful and luckily most of the customers understand English. There are morning and evening shifts, and we switch every day. The morning shift starts at nine, so we have some time to prepare food until we open at eleven o’clock and the shift ends at three thirty. The evening shift starts at three thirty and ends at around nine. I enjoy preparing food the most, so I like the morning shifts better.

Through my job I have learned to:
  • take customer orders
  • operate the cash register
  • get used to the Danish currency
  • prepare and cook Mexican food

All in all, it was a good experience for me and I believe it is a good opportunity to gather new experiences in a foreign country.
Olivia Bermann@El Santo

I work at a Mexican diner called El Santo. The shop is in a kind of street food court in a shopping center. I either have to open the shop or close it. Both shifts are about 6.5 hours. My tasks include customer contact when taking orders as well as preparing the dishes. Cooking really isn't that hard once you get the hang of it. The day usually starts with preparations such as preheating everything, cooking rice or making guacamole. Then it starts. We open at 10 a.m. and the first customers arrive. There's usually not much going on in the morning, but by lunchtime there are a lot of people in the street food area. We have a relatively long break and can also relax and eat something. In the evening, we start cleaning up, check the cash register and make sure all groceries are correctly stored. What I particularly like is that our team are very young, so everyday life doesn't get boring.

Lara Brunner@Penny Lane Café

During my stay in Aalborg, I got the chance to work at Penny Lane Café. Penny Lane is a really popular café in Aalborg with several outlets, but the one where I am working is the biggest.

I was able to work together with my classmate Aurelia. All of our colleagues are really nice and help us whenever we need support. Because the café has so many employees, we meet someone new almost every day.

Penny Lane features great pastries, warm and cold meals, and delicious drinks of all kinds. We can wear our own clothes to work, but we wear an olive-green apron on top.

We work from Monday to Friday and every shift starts at 11 a.m. On Mondays and Wednesdays, we help close the café at 6 p.m. On the other days, we work as long as they need us, which may until 3, 4, or 5 p.m. We really appreciate that we are allowed to take home leftover bread and pastries in the evening.

My main tasks are clearing and cleaning tables, serving drinks and pastries, and loading/unloading the dishwasher (only until 1 p.m.).

I have already learned so many new things and am looking forward to learning even more! Working at Penny Lane is a lot of fun, and I am extremely thankful for this opportunity.
Maria Dietrich@El Santo

Hello, my name is Maria and I'm working in Denmark for 4 weeks in a Mexican street food restaurant named "El Santo".
The food stand is located in the Friis shopping center surrounded by many other street food stalls. On the first day we were greeted very warmly by our employer, everything was shown to us in detail and then we were given our T-shirts. I really like working here and I always work here with a friend. The employees here are very friendly, also those at the other stands. My working hours are either from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. or 3:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. My tasks are opening the shop in the morning and preparing everything, serving customers and cleaning everything in the evening. We offer, for example, tortillas, quesadillas or burritos which we learned to make by ourselves. Everything here is very nicely designed as it is a brand-new store.

In my opinion the Erasmus+ Programme is a great way to improve your language skills and see a new country at the same time. It's very beautiful here in Denmark and I'm really enjoying my stay.

Benno Paul Fritschke@Fish ‘n’ Chips

While staying in Aalborg, I had the great opportunity to work at the Fish ‘n’ Chips stall of the local street food market. We had the choice in which stalls we wanted to work, so I chose something I really like. The others switched between the stalls, but Alex and I stayed at Fish ‘n’ Chips the entire time.

The stall is located in the hall of the local street food market, which is directly at the fjord cutting through the city. It is an old hangar, so there’s more than enough space for many stalls, from Mexican to Indian, from Greek to Fish ‘n’ Chips.

Some of my duties are cutting fish into perfectly-sized pieces, preparing the batter for the fried fish, building fish burgers, making coleslaw and sauce tartare, carrying bags of fries through the hall (I could’ve used a cart too, but I wanted to see how many bags I could carry), keeping the stall clean and tidy and of course frying fries, calamari and fish.
In general, I really like working here. It’s probably not a job for a lifetime, but definitely fun for some time. A big thanks to my boss Aurélie, my co-workers and the people who made Erasmus possible in the first place. It’s a great experience, I can only recommend it to everyone.
PS: We make the best fries of the entire market :D
Laurin Gaismayr@Aalborg Street Food

I work in the Aalborg street food hall at the port of the city. I have already got experience in working at different stands. My main workplace is the dessert stand where I have learned how to make bubble waffles and all different kinds of coffee. However, if it is very busy, I help out at other booths. I have also worked at the pizza and dosa stand where I got to make a variety of different dishes. Our floor manager is very nice and looks after us. She is trying to give us a good time in the street food hall. There is a lot of diversity in the kitchens. People from countries all over the world work there, which enables us to meet people from places we may never go to. The staff are very friendly and give us plenty of freedom and let us try to serve the customers. All and all, my time here has been very exciting and I am thankful that I got the chance to meet a lot of new people. I really recommend taking the chance and visiting Denmark to everyone.

Alexander Gmeiner @Fish‘N’Chips

I work at the Skudehaven in the Aalborg Streetfood Køkkenfabrikken. The company I work for is called Fish‘N’Chips. We sell various fish dishes such as fish burgers and the classic fish and chips. We are one of eleven restaurants at the Køkkenfabrikken.
I wake up every morning at half past eleven and take my bike to get to work. I bike ride takes 20 minutes and it features a beautiful view because the route follows the Østerå River. My tasks vary a lot. I chop vegetables and fish, serve customers, grill fish and fry chips and sometimes I also clean. We also get orders from customers via app. Our customers are all very friendly. Because of the European Football Championships, it is always very crowded in the evenings. Sometimes we even have customers from Germany and Austria. Our manager Dimitra Nikolova is friendly and helps us with every problem. My co-workers are also great. I have a lot of fun with them every day.
Aurelia Griell@Penny Lane Café

My workplace in Aalborg is the Penny Lane Café at Boulevarden 1. The address is important because there are four Penny Lane cafés in Aalborg. It's a lovely café, bigger on the inside than you would think, that serves all kinds of cakes, coffees, and pastries, but also brunch plates, salads, huge sandwiches, and delicious drinks. The atmosphere inside is warm and friendly, and you feel welcome right away.

Luckily, I get to work with Lara, whom I knew before, which is such a great plus! Our co-workers are so lovely and helpful. They're always there to answer any questions we have. Another positive point is that we don't have to start until 11 a.m. Also, we have just two long days, until 6:20 p.m., and on the other days, we can leave when it's less busy. For the first two hours, we mainly help washing up and go around clearing the tables. Later, we also get to serve our customers, chat with them, or do some extra work like sorting the coffee or putting the cakes in the display.

I love learning new things, like how to balance more than two plates on my hands and how not to spill anything. I will definitely have gained muscle mass after these four weeks because the trays can be so heavy! The language barrier is a bit of a problem as I can sometimes understand Danish but can only answer in English. Even though most people speak English, not everyone understands me or can express their wishes. The best part of my day is when German-speaking people come in, and I can speak to them in my native language. They're usually excited too!

I'm grateful for the opportunity to work here. I'll really miss the café, the great food, and especially, the lovely people here!

Lina Hagleitner@El Santo

I work at El Santo, a street food stand in the Friis Shopingcenter. I have a lot of different tasks to do there. The main task is to take orders and process them. El Santo serves various dishes such as burritos, nachos, quesadillas, bowls and taco plates. However, I have learnt very quickly how to prepare the individual meals.

Depending on whether I work the morning or afternoon shift, I have to do different tasks. During the morning shift, I prepare the sauces, which are all homemade. The morning shift also involves opening the store and preparing everything so that orders can be served later. The afternoon shift involves closing the store and cleaning the whole kitchen.

As you can see, this job is very varied and I can learn a lot of new things. I particularly enjoy taking orders and being busy. However, sometimes the work can be a bit boring if there are no orders coming in and when there is nothing else to do. On the whole, however, I think it's very cool to work in this store, because the other employees are also very nice and eager to teach me new things.
Hannah Helbock@El Santo

My name is Hannah, and I am currently living in Denmark, where I work at El Santo. I'd like to give you a little insight into my workplace.
At El Santo, my shifts vary – either from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. or from 3:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. I find this flexibility fantastic because it allows me to have plenty of free time to enjoy life in Denmark and discover new things.
My tasks are diverse: I cook, wash the dishes, and also work at the register, where I enjoy chatting with the customers. The work never gets boring since I work with a friend and have lots of interaction with our guests. The team atmosphere is excellent, communication is smooth, and the mood is always positive.
I particularly appreciate the short 15-minute bike ride to work. On my way, I constantly discover new places and sights that brighten my day.
I am really looking forward to the next three weeks at El Santo and to having even more exciting experiences.

Dilara Höfle@El Santo

I work at the street food market in Aalborg at a Mexican food stand called „El Santo.“ This stand is run by two very kind entrepreneurs. In my first week, I have already gained many new experiences and learned new skills. I have learned how to make Mexican dishes like burritos and the secret recipe for the world’s best chili con carne. I have also gained an understanding of organizing and running a business. I am especially fascinated by the good work-life balance of the Danes. The working hours are pleasant and the work environment is excellent . What I like most about my job is the flat hierarchy in the company and my friendly and funny co-workers. In addition, we are allowed to listen to our own music while working and we haven even learnt some Danish. I am looking forward to the coming weeks and am very happy to work at „El Santo.“
David Kathrein@Graitor
During my stay in Denmark, I had the opportunity to immerse myself into the start-up spirit while working for Graitor, an app developer that offers users enhanced value for their pawned items.

My workplace is unique because I have the flexibility to choose when and where I work. In addition to occasional photography, my primary task is to create the structure for their new website, which involves developing user flows, sitemaps, wireframes, and more.

We occasionally have meetings to discuss my progress and plan our next steps, often over lunch. These informal settings foster a relaxed atmosphere that encourages open dialogue and creative brainstorming. The ability to discuss ideas and receive feedback in such an environment has been invaluable to my development. During the week, we use Slack as our primary form of communication, which is common in tech companies.

I am very grateful for the opportunity to collaborate with a start-up whose founders have extensive experience working for major DAX corporations. Their insights and mentorship have provided me with a comprehensive view of both the start-up ecosystem and the practices of large, established companies. This experience will undoubtedly enhance my own work quality in the future.

Overall, my time at Graitor has been incredibly enriching, combining practical skills development with the dynamic and innovative environment of a start-up.

Eileen Kräutler@Aalborg Streefood Market

During my first week in Aalborg, I enjoyed the opportunity to work at Pastotto and Burger, restaurants situated in the street food market in Aalborg. I alternate between different stands, which makes my work all the more interesting. For example, the restaurant Pastotto focuses on dishes all around pasta. There I learned how to do risotto balls, bruschetta, chicken, pasta, as well as different kinds of sauces and variations of salads.

As the name already says, at Burger I learned how to make the perfect burger. Other skills I have learned there include cooking chicken nuggets, fries and other vegan options. I really enjoy commuting to work. Depending on the weather it only takes me about 11-15 minutes to go to work when I use my bicycle. I can also take the bus which takes 20 minutes.

My working days vary. Depending on which shifts I get I usually work 5 days per week, sometimes even as little as 4 hours a day. That makes it very easy to enjoy my stay in Denmark, not only as an employee, but also as a tourist.
I am happy to say that my co-workers and I get along very well, and I look forward to seeing them every day.
Are you interested in such an experience? Come to Denmark 😊

My name is Zoey Lukman and I work at Cura Clothing.
Cura Clothing is a tiny boutique that sells high quality slow fashion items. Getting there is quite easy, as it is only ten minutes by foot away from where I live.
Depending on our plans for the week, I spend two to three days at the office, and two to three days working from home. I really enjoy my tasks, which include creating content for social media, doing research for growing Cura’s internet presence, taking pictures and videos, and more.
In my first week I have already made various Tiktoks, designed thank you cards, and wrote analyses on the company’s TikTok account. I am very grateful to my employer, because not only did she give me a very warm welcome to Aalborg but she is also a great mentor and helps me learn a lot of new skills. Right at the beginning I could voice my wishes on what aspects I’d like to develop further, and those became part of my tasks with my employer as my mentor.
All in all, I can confidently say I look forward to being a part of this company for the remainder of the month and would recommend my position to anyone interested in marketing, content creating and Denmark. 😊

I work at a place called “Street Food Market”. There you can get a lot of different dishes. The company I work for is called “El Santo”. We sell different types of Mexican food. In our first few days we learned how to run the food shop. That’s why our job includes nearly everything you have to do there. Our tasks are cleaning (doing the dishes and keeping the shop tidy), selling food at the register, and preparing the meals. I’ve learned how to wrap a burrito, make guacamole and other ingredients you need for Mexican food. I work five days a week. Depending on my shift, I work from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. or from 3:30 p.m. to 9:30p.m. Sometimes, work days are very busy and feel very long and stressful. Still, I have already met a lot of nice people and my co-workers are very friendly and funny too.

Paula Model@Pastotto

I work at the Street Food Market in Aalborg, where I alternate between a pasta shop called “Pastotto” and a burger shop, but I mainly at „Pastotto“. My daily routine varies as the working hours are not always the same.

On a typical day, I start by preparing fresh ingredients, cooking pasta or grilling burgers, and ensuring the area is clean and ready for our customers to arrive. I enjoy interacting with people, taking orders, and helping them choose their meals. The direct contact with our customers and the opportunity to make them happy with delicious food is very rewarding.

Through my work I have learned:
  • making pasta and bruschetta
  • taking orders and operating the cash register
  • facing and dealing with different and unexpected situations
I also appreciate working with my international cco-workers. I've learned a lot about different cultures and work styles, which has enriched my experience. The dynamic and varied nature of the job keeps things interesting, and the flexible hours allow me to explore Aalborg and its surroundings. Overall, working at the Street Food Market has been both a professional and personal growth opportunity. I'm looking forward to learning and experiencing more during my time here.
Najed Omier@Street Food Market

I work at the Street Food Market in Aalborg. My day typically begins early in the morning and I start work at 9 a.m. So, in the mornings I help to set up different stalls. We make sure that everything is clean and organized and we start arranging ingredients, prepare the cooking equipment and make sure that everything is ready to start serving dishes before the food hall opens. There is always a hustle in the morning because other vendors are also preparing but it creates an energetic and lively atmosphere.
By 11:30 a.m. the market opens and at this time I go to my main stall which is “Duck it”. There we sell different duck burgers and fries. My primary responsibility is to:
  • take orders
  • assist in preparing food
  • prepare sauces
  • interact with customers
We get one free meal every day that we can choose from any stand in the hall, so we get to try different cuisines. During the break I meet up with my friends from school and we have lunch together.
It depends on the work schedule but usually I am off at around 3 p.m.
Working at the street food market in Aalborg has been an opportunity to immerse myself into different cultures and get to know new people from around the world every day. You can really develop new skills and make long-lasting and meaningful connections.

Najoud Omier@Happy Greek

During my stay in Denmark, I work at the street food market, mostly in the Happy Greek´s kitchen. The floor manager of the market was really sweet and flexible when it came to organizing the working hours. They operate different shifts, but I always work from nine to three, five days a week. They scheduled it the way it suited us. Also, the co-workers at Happy Greek are very friendly and taught me everything very patiently and from scratch and didn’t expect a lot from us. They also often ask us if we need a break or want something to eat, which I really appreciate. They were surprised that I was able to adapt so quickly. Happy Greek offers authentic Greek cuisine, for example:
  • Gyros Pita and plate
  • Chicken Pita and plate
  • Lamb Pita and plate
  • Haloumi Pita and plate
  • Fries and several sauces
I cover several tasks, such as food preparation, customer service and maintaining a clean and organized work area. The best thing is that we get a free meal from different kitchens every day. I really like the work atmosphere here and I am enjoying my independency in Denmark.
Lena Prantl@Farmen A/S

When I first heard about my internship position at Farmen A/S, I was more than happy. I was told that I would be taking pictures of horses which are for sale in a stable, which perfectly combined my two hobbies. It felt like a dream opportunity made just for me. However, due to misunderstandings things turned out differently than I had expected.

My actual tasks included:
- mucking out stables
- sweeping the barns
- feeding the horses
- bringing them to and from the fields

My workplace is a 20-minute bike ride from my home. While the work is quite exhausting, my coworkers make it enjoyable. There is a full-time employee who teaches me everything I needed to know, and another intern from Germany. Even though some tasks are really tough, I do like my job.
I have also learned how to ride a quad, which added a new skill to my list. Despite the challenging circumstances, I have been able to create many wonderful memories during my time here, even though I didn’t get the chance to take pictures.

Alina Raggl@Street Food Market

During my stay in Denmark, I got the opportunity to work at the street food market in Aalborg, which offers a variety of meals from all over the world. Initially, I wasn't sure if I would enjoy it, but I quickly realized how wrong I was. From the very first day, I have had an amazing time working there.

For my internship, I was placed in a dessert shop. I usually work from Monday to Friday, starting at 11 in the morning and finishing at 5 in the afternoon. My main tasks included making different kinds of coffee, baking and decorating bubble waffles, and scooping ice cream. Most of the time we are just two people running the shop, but that has never been a problem. We have a clear structure - someone takes the order and puts it into the system and the other one prepares it.

I am grateful to have had such a wonderful job. The working atmosphere is fantastic, and my coworkers are incredibly friendly and helpful, which made the start much easier. It is a great place to meet new people and learn about different cultures, as both the staff and guests come from all over the world.

Julia Schretter @ Jomfru Ane Hotel

During my stay in Aalborg, Denmark, I had the pleasure to work in the city center in the famous party street Jomfru Ane in the Jomfru Ane Hotel. I am very excited to work in a hotel because I’ve never worked in one before so I am very interested and curious about this new adventure.
My workweek is from Monday to Friday and at the weekends I am given the chance to explore Denmark a little more. I usually work from 7 in the morning until 2 in the afternoon.
My tasks include
  • preparing and helping out with breakfast
  • assisting the guests
  • taking care of the reception
  • housekeeping

The team is great. Everyone is very friendly and we have lots of fun moments together. I have learned so much from them and I am very happy that I have had the chance to spend good times with the team of Jomfru Ane Hotel.
Thank you very much!

Luisa Sinz@El Santo

Hello, I am Luisa Sinz and I work at the El Santo food truck.
On the first day we were given T-shirts, and the working hours were arranged. We work the morning shift one day and then the evening shift the next day. The first shift always runs from half past nine to half past four and the second shift is from half past four to half past ten in the evening. I think this is very good because it means we have a lot of free time and can explore the city. It is also very practical that we got a bike. So, I can reach my workplace in 15 minutes.

Then it started. First, we were shown what we have to prepare in the morning and of course how to make the individual dishes such as a burrito. It's also a very relaxed and fun atmosphere. I enjoy talking to our customers a lot. In this way our English also improves. Let's see what else is in store for me. I am looking forward to it.
Shannon Smith@På Fjorden

During my stay in Denmark, I got the chance to work at På Fjorden Bageri & Café in Aalborg. På Fjorden is a charming and popular restaurant located in a picturesque setting on the shores of the Limfjord. But what really sets Pa Fjorden apart is the fascinating art collection that can be admired throughout the restaurant. This carefully curated mix of different art styles and forms gives the café a special atmosphere that is both inspiring and cosy.
Pa Fjorden Café's menu is diverse and focuses on local, seasonal ingredients. From freshly brewed coffee and homemade cakes to savory sandwiches, delicious brunches and healthy salads, there's something for everyone.
I work from Wednesday to Saturday. During the week, my working hours are from 10 am to 5 pm, and on Saturday, from 10 am to 3 pm.
My tasks include:
  • serving coffee and pastries
  • learning how to make coffee and latte art
  • clearing and cleaning tables
I don't have to wear any special work clothes except an apron to keep my clothes clean. My boss and co-workers are extremely nice and always very friendly. I have learned a lot of new things here and am glad to have such a nice workplace.
