Alissa Thalmann
Maldron Hotel Parnell Square
Hello!
My name is Alissa and I was working and living in Ireland for one month. I worked in the Maldron Hotel Parnell Square where I met a lot of interesting new people. Everyone was very nice and friendly, and they explained everything to me patiently. The time flew by fast because we always had something to do, and I never got bored when I did my tasks because it was very diversified. Clearing and cleaning the tables, refilling, and cleaning the buffet, hoovering the restaurant, polishing the cutlery in the polishing machine, or making breakfast trays for the next day were some tasks I had to do.
I lived with my friend Ronja together in a host family. The family was very nice and the host mom, Helen, cooked for us, washed our clothes, and cleaned our room. We didn’t ask for any of this and she just did it. She is a host family for over 20 years now and she told us many interesting stories about her previous students. Sometimes we talked after work or after we were on a trip on the weekend, and we would tell her how our day was. She recommended us places we could go to and offered us to bring us somewhere. We could stay out as long as we wanted and one of the only rules were that we were not allowed to shower in the morning because then we would wake everyone up.
We saw a lot or Ireland and tried to do as many trips as possible. I’m glad that we got to see Giant’s Causeway, Howth, Belfast, Galway, Cliffs of Moher, Killkenny, Glendalough and the Velvet Beach. We also visited the EPIC Museum and the National Gallery of Ireland. I’m very happy that I got to see that much of Ireland and I’m glad that I made this experience.

Maxi Zoo at Dublin Finglas
Hello everyone, I was allowed to work in a really nice Maxi Zoo (Fressnapf) branch. Due to the renovation work, my first day was quite hectic. But after I got to know the business and everyone else, everything went like a clockwork. The best thing about my job was the people who worked with me. We've all gotten to know each other really well during these weeks and I miss them already, although we still keep in touch via social media. The work itself was very varied, I was allowed to pet many dogs, filled up the shelves, kept the shop neat and tidy and fed the fish in our underwater world. In short, it was a great time there.
What was special was our host mother, she had an operation and that's why a friend of hers took care of us for a short time and made the house cleaner for us, cause she said we shouldn’t live like this :). In my opinion, in Dublin you make yourself available as a host family so that you have a monetary advantage. With my roommate, I took full advantage of the time in the accommodation by going for a walk or eating too many sweets in our room. The food in the restaurants and Café we visited was just great.
Ireland is a beautiful country and the places we visited in Dublin with our teacher, but also alone, were truly breathtaking. The weather in Ireland is very windy and rainy, which was funny on my part, because the people in Ireland didn't care. The people I met said "thank you" and "sorry" at every opportunity, so friendly and kind.

Hey there!
My name is Agnes Schrotter and I was allowed to spend 4 weeks in Dublin. From the first moment I stepped a foot on the Irish ground I noticed how friendly, welcoming and polite the people in this city were. The city was so multifaceted and the monuments I visited e.g., the Trinity College and the Dublin castle were historically fascinating.
After we landed and strolled around the city on our first day, we all went off to our host families. I felt really welcomed and comfortable from the first day on. Our host mum made us breakfast and dinner after we came home from work, and this was also a good way of improving our English skills by chatting with her.
To be honest the first day of work as a childcare assistant was quite challenging and a bit frustrating. But after a few days I learned how to include and embrace myself and it was really entertaining to chat with the kids. I was in charge of preparing their snacks, ensuring their safety and playing fun games with them.

Our day started at 11 o’clock and ended at 5 p.m. I worked in a summer camp with kids age 5 – 6 . The camp was based in Phoenix park.
Every morning the smiley faces of kids waited for me. As I stepped in, they came running to me. I did not do much all day long. I was just playing with them either inside in the classroom or outside in front or at the back of the school. I showed them how to draw really well and not outside the lines. Together we cut out some snowflakes and played with Legos. Some days we went to the Phoenix café and the kids could run though the maze and all the teachers had to watch them. I could also help sometimes with passing the food to them, but that was not often. The one thing I learned from this experience is how to be patient. Kids really know how to get on someone’s nerves.

Clayton Hotel Charlemont Hii! My name’s Emma and I spent a month in Ireland. I got to work in the Clayton Hotel Charlemont, which was situated about an hour away from my host Mum’s place by bus. Even though I had to travel two hours a day to get to work and back `home`, I honestly can’t say a bad thing about my work placement itself. It felt like every single person working there was very nice, and both my co-trainee/friend and I felt instantly welcomed into the team. Although our workdays usually consisted of clearing and resetting tables and polishing copious amounts of cutlery, we still had a lot of fun. And I definitely believe that I’ve gained quite a bit of knowledge and experience during my month there. My roommate and I were placed in a ‘host family’ consisting of our host Mum and her dog, Hugo. She was vey nice. During our stay at her place, she had to undergo surgery and was away for a few days. Her best friend looked after us during that time and we had a great time together, she was just the sweetest. One thing I didn’t enjoy about Ireland was the weather. Fulfilling every cliché, it was windy and rainy most days and the temperature never went above 21°C. But overall, I absolutely loved my stay in Ireland. |

Tola Vintage In my everyday work at Tola Vintage, a store focused on selling vintage-designer clothing, there was a diverse range of tasks in order to maintain the unique atmosphere of the store. The day often began with sorting and arranging new garments, with particular attention to the quality of the pieces. This was one of the most important tasks, since making the appearance of the store attractive is necessary in order to attract customers. Another part of my job included maintaining the store situation. This included regularly checking the inventory, organizing the sales area, caring for the already presented clothing items, standing behind the register or answering customers questions or helping out pedestrians with directions. This variety of tasks made my daily life especially interesting. Ultimately, this internship opened up an exciting new environment for me in which I could not only gain practical experience in the retail sector, but also gain a deeper insight into the world of fashion. |
